    Pressure Point

I don’t like being pressured to do stuff. Do you? I prefer to live in the delusion that I am in total charge of my life. Sometimes the Holy Spirit can turn the screws on my spirit. My mind and even my body begins to feel a heavy burden to say or do something. Do you know what I’m talking about? I might resist the Spirit’s pressure for days at a time, but eventually I’ll admit that he is in charge. This happened to me earlier this year. I was thinking about the description of

Can You Handle An Answered Prayer?

On Sunday, September 18, I plan (Lord willing) to preach the second sermon in our brief series on prayer. This one is called Can You Handle An Answered Prayer? I borrowed the title from my new favorite book on prayer by my favorite preacher H.B. Charles Jr. His book is called It Happens After Prayer. It's a well-written and well-illustrated guide to prayer. There will be copies available on the book table this Sunday. It's a fascinating questions isn't it? Could we handle an

    Extraordinary!

What an extraordinary day at the Cornerstone! The power and presence of the Lord were so evident. The music and prayers and Bible readings all combined in almost perfect unison. I experienced tremendous freedom in the Spirit as I preached the Word. Jesus Christ was lifted high. OK, so that's a normal Sunday worship gathering at the Cornerstone. So, what was extraordinary? After the sermon, we all prayed for each other. We prayed for a revival fire. We took our place as priest

    It Happens After Prayer

The following is an overview of my sermon planned for Sunday, September 11, 2016. The Bible text is Isaiah 37, in particular verse 21. If you wish to explore the topic of prayer more fully, I recommend highly H.B. Charles Jr.'s book, It Happens After Prayer. It is a helpful, biblical, and practical manual on prayer. INTRODUCTION Did you hear about the young man who finished his apprenticeship and got his plumber's license? He went on vacation to Niagara Falls and stood starin

    Prayer Meeting Launch - Success!

Our first weekly prayer meeting was a powerful experience. It just felt right. I "knew" we were doing what the Lord wanted for our church at this time. We prayed for our neighborhoods and focused on the schools and the first responders. We prayed for our nation and lifted up by name many in political office. We prayed for the Cornerstone. We used a variety of formats. For instance: We prayed as a whole group. We prayed in clusters of four. We prayed in a circle. We prayed hol

An Invitation to Join our Prayer Meeting

This Wednesday, September 7, at 7:00 pm., we'll meet for our first weekly prayer meeting. I know that prayer meetings have gone out of fashion in recent years. We're tired, busy, distracted by many things and the thought of leaving home and sitting in room with a bunch of folks we may not know ... well, it's just not real appealing. I get it. However, on the other hand, setting aside every reason not to be there, I'm still convinced we should meet weekly this fall to pray. I
