I don’t like being pressured to do stuff. Do you? I prefer to live in the delusion that I am in total charge of my life.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit can turn the screws on my spirit. My mind and even my body begins to feel a heavy burden to say or do something. Do you know what I’m talking about? I might resist the Spirit’s pressure for days at a time, but eventually I’ll admit that he is in charge.
This happened to me earlier this year. I was thinking about the description of the church at the end of Acts 2. You know the passage: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” When I thought about a church devoted to prayer, I immediately felt pressure from the Spirit: “Peter, you need to lead the Cornerstone to be devoted to prayer.”
So I preached on prayer. I made H. B. Charles’ book on prayer available. And I initiated the weekly prayer meeting called the Power House.
I don’t much like putting pressure on people, but I’m going to do it now. The Power House is an essential component of the Cornerstone’s life together. We need God to work in our lives, our community, our nation, the nations, and in our church. Prayer is the means the Lord has chosen to activate his work in our world. We should pray together as often as possible.
The Power House is dynamic, fast-paced, easy to participate, powerful, over before you know it. You won’t be asked to pray out loud. We focus on prayers of strategic importance. I really enjoy the hour.
Pressure Point: make every effort to be at the Power House on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. Give it a try. If it’s not happening for you, you don’t have come back.
Weekly Prayer Meeting: Wednesdays, 7PM.
